North Seymour
North Seymour is located above Baltra Island in the heart of the archipelago. It was formed by a series of uplifts of submarine lava along with Baltra, resulting in flat plateaus. This small island is home to vast numbers of land iguanas, and also hosts large populations of blue-footed boobies, swallow-tailed gulls, common noddies, and frigatebirds.
Interestingly, land iguanas are not actually native to North Seymour. In the 1930s, 70 land iguanas were moved from Baltra to North Seymour in order to provide better conditions for their survival. Numbers now sit at a whopping 2,500.
